Following the steps outlined in the job search plan section of this week’s lecture, create a detailed job search plan.
Know yourself: Working in public health satisfies my lifelong desire to help others and my interest in the topic. I give my all to everything I set my mind to. This means that I am open to starting at the bottom to advance in my chosen field.
Know your employment goal: Health educators play an important role because many people do not realize the dangers of their actions. I want to find a position within the community where I can help spread awareness and create initiatives to boost community wellness.
Work on your résumé and cover letter: These promotional efforts are directed at the outside world.
Make a plan: I plan on using the school’s resources in my job hunt in addition to my own efforts. When I’m done with my resume, I’m going to send it to a few online databases.
Prepare for your interview: My practice interviews have helped me feel more confident going into the real thing. I have reviewed the most frequently asked questions and have been rehearsing my answers, especially those to behavioral concerns. Even if the questions are a little different from the ones I’ve been practicing for, I can change my answers a little to answer them. Everyone I practiced interviews with told me to send an interviewer an e-mail thanking them for their time within 24 hours of the interview. Each candidate said this was an individual action that set them apart, along with their answers to interview questions. I plan to prepare for each interview by learning as much as possible about the firm and the position for which I am applying.
Network: Because of the support of my family, I have been able to discuss my career goals with my employers and colleagues.
Explain what it was like to outline this process.
The procedure was clearer to me after having it laid out. It shows me that completing my coursework is near and that I should complete my résumé and start looking for scholarships and other opportunities.
Explain how you went about identifying potential employers.
To begin, I’ll focus on finding a company whose values align with my own. I’ll look into the company’s projected expansion to learn more about my potential advancement there.
Explain how you narrowed down job choices.
The results of my research into the job market will be used to help me limit my options. The company’s past and current status, as well as employee opinions, will be considered.
Reflect on a second completed interview and provide an e-mail from the person you completed the interview with.
I felt more confident going into my second interview after having already gone through one. Moreover, I had a positive rapport with the individual who interviewed me. That eased the tension throughout the interview. This time around, the interviewer took a deeper dive into my credentials and demonstrated a deeper understanding of the field. Because the interviewer asked me more about my work experience, I felt comfortable answering both personal and business-related questions.
