Dear Steve, The other day I watched a documentary called, “Don’t die you young”. In that episode they were talking about the heart and the importance of that organ in our body. They also showed us different people and how the things they are doing in their everyday life affects the heart and their health in many ways. The heart is influenced by your lifestyle. Your health all revolves around your diet, whether you smoke, how much stress you are in and how much exercise you are doing. In this episode they showed us an exampleof a person who isn’t living a healthy lifestyle and how it is affecting his heart. A man named Stephan. Stephan is always stressed since he is a workaholic, just like you. You are always stressed about work and that is not healthy for your heart! In his free time, he does all the wrong things, he binge smokes and binge eats. He tries to exercise by playing football, but he becomes so worked out and tired to the point he can’t play. A lady named Alice puts Stephen’s heart and stress levels through a series of tests and, when he got the results, he knew he has to make many changes to his lifestyle. The first two things you have to stop doing are, being stressed and binge eating. Both these things are not healthy. Binge eating has many bad side effects like an increase in cholesterol, abnormal cortisol affects and even an increase in blood pressure. Also when you have extra fat your blood plasma becomes cloudy, which isn’t healthy because it must be clear. If you are stressed out all the time, you are putting pressure on your heart. The hearts starts beating faster, then adrenaline increases and that leads to increase in sugar level. That could all lead to the blood capillaries getting block which would ultimately lead to a heart attack. Also you tend to eat more when you’re stressed even when you aren’t hungry. Heart attacks are caused when the heart’s own arteries get blocked, and major factors causing this are smoking, poor diet and stress. Smoking is one of the most damaging things you can do to your heart. It makes your arteries clogged up on the inside and your blood more likely to clot. You are smoking a lot and you should consider stopping. I want you to think about changes you can make to your lifestyle to protect your heart. You could go for yoga or meditation for relaxation. If you wouldn’t like to do those things, then maybe you should try exercising three times a week minimum. Try to deal with your stress by doing something fun once in a while. Have a healthy diet by cutting down the saturated fat and by eating more unsaturated fat. Take omega-3 which helps with the blood pressure. Love, Sara
